Gary A. Stein

Gary A. Stein

Rockville, Maryland

Gary Stein is a cum laude graduate of Georgetown University Law School and holds an A-V rating from Martindale-Hubbell having earned the highest possible rating from his legal peers for both professional excellence and ethical practice.  He is licensed to practice in both Maryland and the District of Columbia and was honored by Washingtonian Magazine as a top lawyer in the Metropolitan area for two consecutive years.  In addition, he’s been named a “Super Lawyer” in Maryland and D.C. in 2016, 2017, and 2018, an honor awarded to lawyers rated in the top 5% of their profession. He is a skilled negotiator, an experienced trial lawyer who has won many cases at the trial and appeal level, and has authored articles on insurance law as a guide for other lawyers.  Gary Stein has been named a “Master of the Bench” in the Montgomery Inn of Court, an honorary organization of local attorneys and judges that promotes training, excellence, and civility in legal practice. He lives in Montgomery County where he and his wife raised two sons and where he has donated many hours of community service over the years.

Gary Stein has represented injury victims for more than thirty years in cases as complex as life-changing medical errors, wrongful death, unreasonably dangerous premises, hazardous products, or as common as automobile accidents resulting in serious injuries.   There is no charge for an initial consultation, and standard contingency fees insure that no legal fee is earned unless and until you receive a recovery.  In appropriate cases he will advance the costs of litigation.   Gary Stein has won multi-million-dollar settlements and/or million dollar verdicts in cases involving the loss of an eye, failure to recognize and react to fetal distress resulting in brain damage to an infant, failure to recognize and treat hemorrhaging in a pregnant woman resulting in her death, and a truck crash causing a young husband to become a paraplegic dependent on others for his daily care.

No one gets married with the expectation that the union will fail.  The disintegration of a marriage creates stress, pain and challenges on multiple levels:  emotional, financial and legal. Since 1981 Gary Stein has helped hundreds of individuals deal with all aspects of a marital dissolution, with careful attention to what strategies and outcomes will serve the best interests of any children of the parties.  Each case is unique and requires a customized approach. His arsenal of techniques includes negotiation, mediation, “collaborative law,” and litigation if necessary.  He has drafted and negotiated hundreds of separation agreements and pre-and-post-nuptial agreements. His clients have included individuals of great wealth and those for whom separation and divorce create an enormous financial burden.  Some of his clients have been public figures—people you’ve seen on TV or read about in the news.  However, regardless of your circumstances, the hallmark of his approach is sensitivity, discretion and protection of your privacy and secrets.   His representation includes:

  • The law of separation and divorce
  • Your rights and responsibilities
  • Spousal support/alimony
  • Child legal and residential custody
  • Child Support
  • Property, asset and debt division
